Laura Benjamins is a PhD candidate in Music Education at Western University, Canada. Her doctoral research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), exploring worship music-making practices from a sociological perspective. Laura holds undergraduate degrees in Piano Performance and Education (Redeemer University), an A.R.C.T. in Piano Performance (Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto), and a M.Mus. in Music Education (Western University). She has worked as a music course instructor at Redeemer University and Laurier University. Laura’s research interests include informal music-making, church music, community music facilitation, and reflective practice. Laura has presented on these and other topics at national and international conferences including the Research in Music Education (RiME) conference and the International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education (ISSME) conference. Several of Laura’s papers can be found in journals such as the International Journal of Music Education and Arts and Humanities in Higher Education.
