Dr. Alicia de Banffy-Hall is a lecturer with over fifteen years’ experience in practice and research. With Prof. Burkhard Hill she co-edited the first German book on community music and an issue of the International Journal of Community Music on Community Music in Germany. She has lectured at universities in Germany, the UK, Switzerland and Austria and she has delivered workshops to music practitioners, music teachers and arts organisations who want to develop community music practice. In 2015, she developed and lead the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra’s first community music programme and recently she worked with the Konzerthaus Dortmund on the development of their community music programme. Since December 2016 Alicia works as a lecturer at the department of music education for the Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt on the first MA in inclusive music education/community music in Germany, a course that she co-wrote.
Alicia has a BA Performing Arts/Community Music, an MSc in Arts and Cultural Management and a PhD (Title: The development of community music in Munich) in music education. For this she has received a PhD scholarship and received the award “Kulturpreis Bayern” by the Bavarian State Ministry of Culture and Education. Since 2018 she is an editorial board member for the International Journal of Community Music.
